The beautiful and verdant Greek island of Poros is only an hour away from Athens by ferry. The island is located in the southwestern part of the Saronic Gulf and resembles a semicircle. The island once consisted of two parts, joined together by a strong volcanic eruption.

The island is believed to be the home of Poseidon. This is confirmed not only by written evidence but also by the ruins of an ancient temple.

The city of Poros 

The capital of the island is built in the form of an amphitheater. The city is located on the slope of a low mountain. The city is attractive with its cobbled streets, on both sides of which the houses in the traditional Greek style and neoclassical mansions look welcoming to tourists. There is a clock tower in the city that offers spectacular views of the sea.


Ruins of the temple of Poseidon 

In ancient times, Calavria, as the island used to be called, was a place favored by Poseidon. In the center of the island, its inhabitants erected a cult temple, which was considered a sanctuary of Poseidon. According to sources, Demosthenes visited the temple, and all the sculptures that adorned the structure were stolen.


The Monastery of Life-bearing Spring 

This is one of the most visited attractions. The monastery is situated on the hillside, covered with pine trees, which towers over a small fisherman's settlement.

Museum of Sea Shells. An amazing museum where you can get acquainted with the inhabitants of the underwater world. In the exhibition, you will learn about sea animals that have a shell or so-called external skeleton.


Archaeological Museum

A small exhibit that operates in the island's capital city. The collection includes exhibits from the Mycenaean and Roman eras, cult objects from pagan temples, funerary paraphernalia, etc.

Canali Beach

A sandy beach that is known for its well-developed infrastructure. Here you can rest comfortably during the day, and in the evening order dinner at one of the local taverns.


Askeli Beach

An organized beach of the island, dotted with snow-white sand. The beach is equipped with volleyball courts, water attractions, open coastal bars, and stores. It is a traditional family beach.


Monastiri Beach

A secluded but organized vacation spot. The beach is surrounded by a lemon grove, and there are good tavernas and hotels around it. Diving fans meet on this beach.


Vagionia

This is a great place for those who love fishing. The beach is located in the center of a large bay. It preserves the natural beauty and landscape that has not been touched by civilization.


Neorio

One of the most beautiful beaches on the island is surrounded by lemon trees. Cafes and hotels are open on the harbor, you can sign up for water polo school, spend a hot night at a nightclub and just sunbathe here.

The island of Poros is located south of Aegina in the Saronic Gulf. The distance to Athens is about 30 miles. Through Poros runs the route to the northern islands, such as Idra and Spetses. 


Facilities in Poros Marina

The island has enough room for a large fleet of yachts. The pier in the Marina is as mooring-friendly as possible and has water and electricity connections. 

There are no other amenities in the Marina.

The anchorage at the Poros Island Marina is anchored, but it is possible to park with a lag to the north. The depths are more than comfortable even for yachts over 50ft.

The cost of a berth in the Marina is around 4 euros for a 45-50 ft yacht. The cost to connect to the water and electricity column is 6-8 euros. It's enough to use electricity and fill up the tanks with 350 liters.
